Song of the Day - Kings of Convenience
Yep, this one's for you, David. Your interpretation of this is exactly why we are meant to be friends.
Quote of the Day

Song of the Day - Hot Chip
Only, like, my favorite Joy Division song ever, covered by one of my, like, favorite contemporary artists. I love this. Like, a lot.

Song of the Day - Cold War Kids
Seeing these guys at the Fillmore tonight for the first time ever. Sooo stoked.
Them Chicks Got Moooves
Last night I was having dinner at Beretta, consuming something in the vicinity of 5,000 calories, and this song just happened to come on in the background. I believe I may have actually squealed outloud when I heard it. I remembered how much I adore this video and just had to watch it today:

Song of the Day - English Beat
Pretty sure I've gotten nothing done today. Pretty sure I don't care.
"Save it for Later" is definitely the theme of the day. Ha.

PANIC PANIC PANIC!

"Bracing for the Worst" was the headline of the Examiner today, paired with a picture of people in surgical face masks. I admit I kind of rolled my eyes when I saw it.
This whole swine flu mania is kind of bugging me. And when I say "mania," I'm referring to the fear-mongering media and their love for instilling a sense of panic in the general public. A general public that is already afraid of everything, including anyone with the name Hussein, plastic water bottles and Mexicans. Oh, and don't get us started on our Black president (whose middle name also happens to be Hussein - a rather unfortunate coincidence).
The whole sky-is-falling mentality almost got me for about half a second until I realized what any semi-rational person would, which is that tens of thousands of people die from flu-related causes every year, and the only reason people are freaking out right now is because there is no vaccine for this particular strain of flu. It's not easily controlled in that respect, which can be understandably a little unnerving. But flu vaccines are overrated anyway, in my opinion. At least for me - vaccines generally don't work at all for me. I end up getting sick anyway - and probably more sick than I would have had I simply contracted the flu without getting a vaccine in the first place.
Swine flu doesn't scare me. People who panic scare me. People who freak out and slaughter tens of thousands of pigs when there hasn't even been a single case of swine flu reported in their country scare me.
I don't doubt swine flu can be more dangerous for some than others, just like any form of the flu can be. Toddlers, elderly people and those with sensitive immune systems should likely take extra precaution and avoid public places. We get it. Mass hysteria, however, is probably not the best solution to the problem, people.
Me? I'm trying to appreciate the humor in a rather twisted, disturbing situation, and I thank God for some of the more rational people on the planet who can laugh at this with me:

Oh, and I've already got my eye on this season's hottest masks to hit Mexico City. When the time comes to truly panic, at least I'll still be able to demonstrate my keen sense of fashion: Stylin' Face Masks

Song(s) of the Day
Thoroughly, completely, whole-heartedly today's song. Yes - yes, indeed it is:
Complete sidenote: I love this site I was just introduced to (thanks, Josh) designed specifically for music junkies (see: yours truly). In fact, I love it so much that you get two more delicious little treats to nibble on today.
So chew away:
And this one's for Mariana:

Song(s) of the Day
So you get two songs today because I was too cranky yesterday to do anything beyond what I was required to in order to maintain my currently employed status.
This first one I'm pretty sure was on the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack, and if not, it should be. A montage of close-up shots of sentimental saps gazing wistfully out of windows at the rain would seem quite appropriately paired with this song. All mocking aside though, the truth is I love this girl's voice. That, and I AM one of those sentimental saps who gazes wistfully out of windows at the rain.
And this is just classic. And if I had a soundtrack to my life, I'm quite sure this would be on it:

For Ben
Beautiful song by an old friend who understands what it is to have an undying passion for all the goodness of the wild music world, while fighting valiantly against the ugliness that inherently goes with it. So happy to see you achieving your dreams, darling. You are authentic to the core.
(Thanks, Josh. Brilliant choice.)

Sorta kinda obsessed
Saw these guys with White Lies over my birthday weekend, which was crazy in all the best possible ways. I have no brain power to expound on the topic and intend on slipping into a coma shortly after wrapping up this post, but I wanted to assure you I am in fact still among the living and doing very well.

Never is a promise
You'll never see
The courage I know
Its colors' richness won't
Appear within your view
I'll never glow
The way that you glow
Your presence dominates
The judgements made on you
But as the scenery grows
I see in different lights
The shades and shadows
Undulate in my perception
My feelings swell and stretch
I see from greater heights
I understand what I am still
Too proud to mention
To you
You'll say you understand
But you don't understand
You'll say you'd never
Give up seeing eye to eye
But never is a promise
And you can't afford to lie
You'll never touch
These things that I hold
The skin of my emotions
Lies beneath my own
You'll never feel
The heat of this soul
My fever burns me deeper
Than I've ever shown
To you
You'll say
Don't fear your dreams
It's easier than it seems
You'll say you'd never
Let me fall from hopes so high
But never is a promise
And you can't afford to lie
You'll never live
The life that I live
I'll never live the life
That wakes me in the night
You'll never hear
The message I give
Youy'll say it looks as though
I might give up this fight
But as the scenery grows
I see in different lights
The shades and shadows
Undulate in my perception
My feelings swell and stretch
I see from greater heights
I realise what I am now
Too smart to mention
To you
You'll say you understand
You'll never understand
I'll say I'll never wake up
Knowing how or why
I don't know what
To believe in
You won't know who I am
You'll say I need appeasing
When I start to cry
But never is a promise
And I'll never need a lie

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)

my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
